Q&A

1. Is my gift tax deductible?
Yes. PKUEF (USA) is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit. PKUEF (USA) will send you an official letter of receipt to acknowledge every gift, which normally is sufficient for your tax deduction.

2. How is my gift granted to recipients?
PKUEF (USA) realizes its mission through supporting programs at Peking University and many educational, research and cultural programs in the United States and internationally. PKU accepts applications and makes grants to those programs at discretion of the Board. With Master Agreement between PKUEF (USA) and PKUEF (Beijing), we make grants to and receive reports from PKUEF(Beijing), who assists the implementation of the programs at Peking University. Other grantees include the Columbia University, PKU Alumni Associations in North California, Houston, New York etc.

3. Is there any management fee charged over my gift?
In order to support its operations and provide better service to our donors and partners, PKUEF (USA) has considered the prudence of assessing management fees on gifts received by the Foundation, and has determined that PKUEF (USA) will assess management fees on each donation received at and over $10,000. For gifts to non-endowment/expendable funds and endowment funds, the management fees will be assessed according to the Management Fee Policy of PKUEF (USA) as follows:

a. On gifts to Non-endowment/Expendable Funds, the Foundation will assess 5-7% of each donation received at and over $10,000 as a one-time management fee.

b. On gifts to Endowment Funds, the Foundation will deduct a one-time management fee and annual management fees. When receiving each donation, the Foundation will assess 5-7% of the donation as a one-time management fee. Each year, the Foundation will deduct an annual management fee equal to 0.5-0.6% of the market value of the endowment fund.

4. How will my gift be acknowledged at PKUEF(USA)?
Every gift counts. We acknowledge our donors through acknowledgement letters, in honor roll of donors at our website in the annual report which is sent to every donor. For gifts with certain amounts, donors are entitled to name the program. We also encourage our donors to visit PKU and meet the recipients of your gifts or grants. PKUEF (USA) is happy to provide necessary assistance for your visit.

5. How can I apply for my company matching when making gifts to PKUEF(USA)?

Notice:
Unless PKUEF (USA) specifically agrees in writing with donors or otherwise indicates in writing that funds will be deposited into a PKUEF (USA) endowment, any funds raised by or contributed to PKUEF (USA) are not deemed to be part of an “endowment fund” as defined under California Probate Code Section 18502(b).  PKUEF (USA) spends non-endowment funds, including non-endowed purpose-restricted funds, in a manner that best achieves the purposes to which those funds are dedicated, in the prudent discretion of PKUEF (USA)’s board of directors.  Where non-endowment funds cannot or do not need to be spent immediately, PKUEF (USA) may temporarily invest those funds for future use at appropriate times, and PKUEF (USA) may spend any income or gain on that underlying principal for its own unrestricted purposes.
