Wuhan Relief Aid

Peking University Education Foundation (USA) Unites Global Effort to Fight against the Epidemic

Dear Peking University (PKU) alumni and friends,

As you are aware, China is now coping with a public health emergency caused by the outbreak of the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). China is not alone in this battle. Support and help swarm in as international community expresses its concern. As  one of the first medical teams dispatched to aid efforts in Wuhan, PKU has been participating in a nationwide effort to contain the spread of the virus and provide medical support to those in need in the most affected areas. More and more PKU alumni and friends all over the world have been joining the fight in response to this epidemic over the past few weeks.

Fighting the virus and limiting its spread requires everyone’s effort. Peking University Education Foundation (USA) has launched a special campaign to unite global effort by accepting donations to purchase more resources for masks, protective clothing and medical gloves, etc. and support disaster relief aid in accordance with its purpose. Hereby, we call on PKU alumni and friends to work with us to support worldwide collaborative efforts to contain the spread of the Coronavirus and to overcome the difficulties together.

We solemnly promise that Peking University Education Foundation (USA) will not charge any administration fees for donations to Wuhan Relief Aid. Every penny you donated will be used for the prevention and control of the COVID-19, and we will provide timely updates on the receiving and using of each of the donations.

Dear PKU alumni and friends, we are particularly concerned about your health and well-being. In view of this unexpected and still evolving situation, we hope you will all stay safe and healthy. We believe that with our joint efforts, the epidemic will eventually pass. Together we will overcome this challenge!

February 2020

Please note that fundraising for Wuhan Relief Aid Program has come to an end on March 17, 2020. Thank you for your generous support!

1. Use of the Fund

The fund is used to support Peking University (main campus, Health Science Center, and affiliated hospitals) and other institutions in prevention and control of the COVID-19, and to respond to public health events , including purchasing medical supplies, providing assistance to medical staff, offering aid for low-income students affected by the epidemic, etc.

2. Action Plan

The program will be implemented through the following ways:

1) Purchasing medical supplies: we will cooperate with American Non-Profits and make grants for American Non-Profits to use for purchasing the much needed medical supplies and transporting them to Wuhan and other affected areas through their channels.

2) Providing assistance to medical staff: the gifts will be used to support Peking University medical teams dispatched to aid efforts in Wuhan, including providing awards to medical staff fighting on the frontline and offering assistance to those who get injured, infected or lose their lives in the relief aid and their families.

3) Offering aid for low-income students: students from low-income backgrounds are facing enormous financial difficulties due to the outbreak. Some students or their family members are ill. Some students’ families lose their financial support because their parents cannot go out to work or even lose their job. And some others live in remote areas. Due to poor internet coverage, they have to study online courses through their mobile phones which are quite expensive. The gifts will provide vital support to them and help them go through the difficult time. After the outbreak, the gifts could be used to provide long-term assistance to students with severe medical conditions.

4) Gifts could be used to support other related work according to the intent of donors and the situation of epidemic prevention and control.

Peking University Education Foundation (USA) will not charge any administration fees for donations to Wuhan Relief Aid.
