2006 Annual Report

Peking University Education Foundation (USA) is proud and delighted to report that, the donation in 2006 amounts to $1,767,700 from 192 gifts. We would like to take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the donors and friends.

In 2006, we received an increasing number of big donations. Mr. and Mrs. Franky Widjaja donated $100,000 to set up the Widjaja Scholarship for Peking University in February; a sum of $150,000 was added to the YKM Entrepreneurial Educational Fund in April; Mr. Leo KoGuan wire transferred $574,500 to PKUEF(USA) in June; the Kavli Foundation declared a donation of $3,000,000 within 6 years in June and the first installment of $500,000 was paid in December; we received a grant of $300,000 from J.T.Tai & Co. Foundation for “Zhang Wenjin Scholarship” and International Higher Education Exchange in November.

We also have an increase in class funds.’77 Physics Class Fund was set up in 2002 and implemented in 2006; alumni of ’82 Chemistry and ’88 Physics set up their class funds respectively. Alumni-funded scholarships increased by 7 and “Love Beida” program increased $6,803 from 21 alumni. We also received $18,460 for Yu Cai Scholarship.

Choong-Chen Yu-lan Educational Fund and YKM Research Fund were set up to support the PKU volunteers contributing to education in China’s west, the scientific research by the PKU undergraduates and the academic seminar for post graduates in Chemistry.

PKUEF (USA) also organized many activities in 2006. We held the first Weiming Forum and Mid-Autumn Charity Evening in San Jose in October at which University President Xu Zhihong and Vice President Hai Wen delivered keynote speeches. PKU Table Tennis Delegation, joined by two former world champions and University Vice President Yue Sulan, visited Washington D.C., New York, Baltimore, Connecticut, Boston and Los Angeles. PKU alumni associations worked together and ensured the successful events.
